ELEGANT REDS

The anchor for this category of refined reds is Pinot Noir, and the world is filled with well-priced examples that offer freshness and vibrancy along with juicy fruit flavors. California, Oregon and New Zealand all shine in this area. Italy also makes excellent values from a range of grapes, including Barbera and Dolcetto, in Piedmont, and Sangiovese, in Tuscany. RICH WHITES

White Burgundy is the classic example of a rich white wine, yet it tends to be very expensive. Thankfully the world is filled with other affordably priced Chardonnays as well as a host of other grapes that yield full, ripe, bold whites.
